Week 7 YAIAA football power rankings

District 3 positioning is coming into focus in the second half of the season. This week, there is still no change in the top three of our YAIAA power rankings. However, it is important to note No. 7 York Catholic is now the district's top-rated Class A team.

In fact, if the district playoffs began today, three YAIAA Division III teams -- the Irish, Delone Catholic and Fairfield -- would make up the four-team tournament.

For now, here is how we see the YAIAA teams stacking up against one another:

1. Bermudian Springs (6-0, last week: 1) -- The next few weeks are big for Bermudian, which plays Delone Catholic on Friday and at York Catholic next week. The Eagles currently trail Berks Catholic and Wyomissing in the District 3 Class AA rankings. They want to get a top-two spot to guarantee home games until Hershey.

2. Dallastown (5-1, lw: 2) -- The Wildcats currently sit 10th in the district rankings for Class AAAA. They are looking up at a long list that includes Penn Manor, which is No. 2 and handed them their lone defeat this season.

3. West York (5-1, lw: 3) -- A trap game was avoided Friday, when West York beat Class A Pius X from District 11. The Bulldogs nearly put up 600 yards of offense in that one and lead the YAIAA with more than 3,000 yards of offense.

4. Dover (4-2, lw: 5) -- Of course, West York sits fourth in the Class AAA district rankings. Dover is 13th. Their meeting in Week 9 could decided the YAIAA Division II title and major playoff points should be at stake. Before Dover can get there, it must travel this week to Reading. A win against that quad-A opponent could also help Dover jump in the district rankings.

5. Gettysburg (5-1, lw: 6) -- The Warriors have been steady outside of their Week 4 loss at Dover. Last week, they handed Eastern York a 24-7 defeat and are now 10th in the same classification as West York and Dover. If West York beats Dover in Week 9, chances are the Bulldogs' Week 10 trip to Gettysburg will decide at least a share of the YAIAA Division II title. However, that's still a ways away.

In contention: 6. Central York (3-3), 7. York Catholic (4-2), 8. South Western (2-4), 9. Spring Grove (3-3), 10. Red Lion (3-3).
