Tri-Town cheerleaders take titles at national competition

The York area Tri-Town cheerleading club ended its season with three teams winning championships Sunday at the Cheer and Dance Extreme Finale in Sevierville, Tenn.

Tri-Town Extreme, an 18-and-under team, was awarded recreational grand champion and finale champion. This comes at an event that included more than 100 competing cheerleading programs, including a few all-star teams -- a status that requires a club to have its own gym and be certified by the U.S. All-Star Federation for Cheer and Dance Teams.

Tri-Town practices at William Penn Senior High School. It doesn't have the resources for mats and is considered a recreational program.

Sunday's trip back to York County marked the end of a season that began last November. The program made two similar trips to Ocean City, Md., and Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Tri-Town Extreme is comprised of girls from William Penn, Dover, Central York, West York, Eastern York, York Catholic and Northern York. Two of Tri-Town's younger programs, the Elite (ages 10-15) and Cyclones (6-9) squads, also won championships in their classifications.

Tri-Town Extreme members include William Penn seniors Courtney Brown, Shalai Tyler, Q'ajaniyah Miller, junior Alexis Dowling and Ajasia Dickson. Four Dover seniors, Brittany Glatfelter, Aleesha Rohrbaugh, Justis Rupp and Allie Miller, also were a part of the squad.
