Central York leads YAIAA field at Susquehanna University Indoor Track Classic


Central York posted five individual top-10 finishes and two top-six relays at the Susquehanna University Indoor High School Classic on Sunday to lead the York-Adams contingent.

Indoor track and field athletes from West York, New Oxford, Gettysburg and Red Land also fared well in the event in Selinsgrove.

Central's DeJanee' Fells finished seventh in the 400 meters (1:06.80) and helped the Panthers' 1600 meter relay finish third in 4:34.98. The relay team also included Jessica Cable, Eryn Nelson and Erin Wilson.

On the boys' side for Central, Kyle Jules took second in the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 4 inches, to earn the Panthers' highest finish. Central got fourth-place finishes from Donald Crabill (pole vault, 11-6) and Brook Wilson (mile run, 4:49.91). And David Choi took eighth in the long jump (18-3.5). The Central York boys' 3200 relay team of Brad Moore, Nicholas Swanson, Michael Lundy and Christian Billings finished sixth in 9:32.58.

Gettysburg also had a strong showing at the meet. The Warriors were led by Erin Stephan's first-place finish in the 400 meters in 1:02.13. She also took fifth in the 55 hurdles (9.15). Rachael Sullivan finished eighth in the shot put (28-2.5), Genesis Mercedes was seventh in the 200 meters (28.47), and Kayelyn Gormley took ninth in the mile run (5:47.74) to round out Gettysburg's girls' top-10 finishers. On the boys' side, Dan Filler took third in the 3,000 meters (9:44.27).

West York's Brady Jacoby finished third in the long jump with a leap of 19-9. And New Oxford's Karissa Floyd was seventh place in the 400 meters (1:06.31).

Red Land's Aaron Lauer earned a pair of second-placed finishes in the mile run (4:35.03) and the 800 meters (2:06.96). John Ford took fourth in the long jump (19-2.5) and seventh in the 400 meters (56.22).

On the girls' side for the Patriots, Marina Radanovic took sixth in the pole vault (8-0), and Samantha Kunkel was seventh in the mile run (5:44.08). Skye Christian was seventh in the 800 meters (2:36.20). Afton Weaver and Makena Felts went back-to-back in ninth and 10th in the 3,000 meters. And the 1,600-meter relay team of Jenna McGuinness, Kunkel, Christian and Sydney Alderman finished fifth in 4:42.17.
