Quick breakdown: District 3 girls' basketball rankings (Jan. 13)

District 3 released its second set of girls' basketball ratings, which will set the brackets for next month's tournament once the regular season concludes. Here's a look at the second installment.

You can click on each classification title for a link to the district's complete ratings.

DISTRICT 3 CLASS AAAA

(Top 20 teams qualify for postseason)

Currently No. 1: Central Dauphin

YAIAA contenders: 2. Dover, 6. Dallastown, 8. Red Lion, 17. New Oxford

Rapid reaction: Dover sat atop last week's initial rankings and was still unbeaten at the time of these ratings' release. The Eagles even earned a signature win on Friday, 47-44, in overtime at Susquehannock, which was ranked second in Class AAA last week. As impressive as that win is, chances are Dover wasn't helped by the stern competition being a class size too small.

DISTRICT 3 CLASS AAA

(Top 18 teams qualify for postseason)

Currently No. 1: Palmyra

YAIAA contenders: 2. West York, 5. Susquehannock, 12. York Suburban, 13. Eastern York

Rapid reaction: While the Warriors dipped slightly, West York emerged in the second spot and has been playing like one of the district's top teams.

DISTRICT 3 CLASS AA

(Top 10 teams qualify for postseason)

Currently No. 1: York Catholic

YAIAA contenders: 2. Delone Catholic, 3. Biglerville, 7. Hanover

Rapid reaction: The Fighting Irish suffered their first loss -- to Delone Catholic -- but it only narrowed the gap rather than allowing the Squirettes to overtake them for the No. 1 ranking.

DISTRICT 3 CLASS A

(Top 12 teams qualify for postseason)

Currently No. 1: Harrisburg Christian

Area contenders: 5. Christian School of York

Rapid reaction: A week after being in the top 12, New Hope fell to 13th.
