Gridiron Picks of the Week: A solid showing in Week 5

Our Most Accurate Predictor Award for high school football Week 5 goes to Tom Sixeas, who moved into a tie for second place overall courtesy of his near-perfect, 13-1 record in Week 5. The lone blemish on his record was the Northern York loss to Greencastle-Antrim, which was not predicted correctly by any of our staffers.

The rest of our staffers each went 12-2, so Matt Goul remained the overall leader at 67-16 this season. Sixeas and Steve Navaroli are tied for second at 59-24, with Lyzz Jones trailing them by a game and Mike Rubin bringing up the rear at 57-26.

The rest of the field had a chance to gain on Goul when the other four pickers correctly predicted Fairfield to beat York County Tech.

But each of them -- aside from Sixeas -- had another pick go awry, keeping Goul's lead the same as last week. Jones was burned by her choice of Kennard-Dale, which lost to Red Lion, and Navaroli and Rubin missed their chance to gain a game on Goul when they chose incorrectly picked Dover, which fell to Central York.

While last week's predictions saw a lot of commonality, Week 6 should mix it up a bit more. There's no consensus on a handful of games: Susquehannock at West York, and Mechanicsburg at Red Land, for instance. And it could be a make or break week for Rubin, who's the lone person to pick Hanover, Red Lion, and Spring Grove to win.
