Central York senior Jay Stone sidelined for football season

Jay Stone stood on the sideline Wednesday at Central York High School on crutches. His senior season as a football player is over before it began, Panthers coach Brad Livingston confirmed.

Stone suffered an unspecified leg injury during the Panthers' first scrimmage two weeks ago against Carlisle. Until that point, it was thought Stone could be a major contributor to the Central York offense as a running back and in the defensive secondary.

"It was kind of freaky," Livingston said. "At least when I saw it on the film, it didn't look like there was much contact. He's got a leg injury, and he just has to get better for track."

Stone is the defending District 3 champion in the 110 and 300 hurdles. He participated in hurdle events around the country and in Puerto Rico this summer.

Livingston said the team plans to add a decal to its helmets for Stone.
