Keystone State baseball game roster released

Each summer, high school baseball players in Pennsylvania try out to represent their region in the Keystone State Games. The reward for making the 20-member team is a series of round-robin games in front of a few Major League scouts and 60-70 college scouts, mostly from Division II.

York County just happens to be a part of the Capital Scholastic Region team, which seeks its third straight championship in the eight-team event.

Play opens Aug. 1 around Harrisburg, and the Capital team opens that day against the West region in a 4:30 p.m. rematch of last year's championship game at the Fredericksburg Legion Field in Lebanon County. Two other sites will play host to games, including Penn State-Harrisburg and a complex near the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex.

Players are selected for a scholastic team, consisting of rising high school seniors and juniors, and a junior team made of sophomores and freshmen. Six players on this year's Capital Region team played on last year's Keystone State champion, including Susquehannock's Sammy Miller and Delone Catholic's Dalton Haymaker. Miller is a four-year member of the Capital teams, starting with the junior-level squad his freshman and sophomore years of high school. He is coming off a spring in which YAIAA coaches voted him the Division III Baseball Player of the Year. Haymaker helped Delone Catholic win the District 3 Class AA championship, a first for its baseball program.

Here's a look at this year's team, which is made up of players from York, Cumberland, Dauphin, Adams and Franklin counties (York and Adams county players are bolded):
