Weekly Rewind (May 13-18)
We're officially well into the postseason for spring sports.
Some sports (baseball, softball) are beginning their District 3 playoffs this week while others (lacrosse, tennis, track, volleyball) have either crowned district champions or are very close to doing so.
With that said, it's time to start recapping the week that was in YAIAA sports.
1. Seth Grove Stadium on the campus of Shippensburg University was the center of the District 3 track and field world this weekend.
The YAIAA didn't disappoint with seven gold medalists on Saturday alone. A day earlier, York County Tech's Ronald Henderson set personal and school records in the triple jump with a leap of 47 feet 3/4 inches. That mark won him the District 3 Class AAA gold medal. He beat out the 46 1/2 that Carlisle's Ian Paschall turned in.

2. Kennard-Dale's girls' lacrosse season survived another week, but it sure wasn't easy.
The Rams opened their District 3 playoff quest by blowing out Central Dauphin East, 23-7, Tuesday. In the next round, the top-seeded Rams scored three second-half goals in a span of 3:39 to beat Exeter, 10-8.
Kennard-Dale, in the district semifinals for the first time, meets Hempfield at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Hershey.
South Western's season came to a close with a 12-11 loss in overtime to Penn Manor in Thursday's quarterfinals.
3. In boys' lacrosse, four YAIAA teams entered the District 3 playoffs. None made it to the second week of the postseason. Kennard-Dale was the only team to win a match and Rams' victory came at the expense of West York, 13-10.
In the quarterfinals, Kennard-Dale bowed out to Hershey, 19-8.
4. There were also a couple YAIAA trophies handed out this week. West York repeated as baseball champion by beating Spring Grove, 3-1, at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Tuesday.
Softball also saw a repeat winner as Central York dumped previously unbeaten Delone Catholic, 2-0, Monday. Taylor Rohrbaugh tossed a one-hit shutout for the Panthers.
The YAIAA volleyball final was not short on drama as Northeastern outlasted Central York in five games (25-19, 18-25, 20-25, 25-16, 15-11) for the title.

In baseball, 10 YAIAA teams across the four classes are vying for district gold while nine softball teams made the cut. Baseball and softball playoffs begin today.
6. Don't forget to vote for our YAIAA boys' and girls' athletes of the week. Both polls close today (Monday) at 5 p.m.
7. Stepping out of the YAIAA, there was a little controversy surrounding the latest Mid-Penn baseball tournament on Wednesday. Pushed back from its normal Monday start, the first semifinal was interrupted by rain before Red Land beat West Perry, 3-2.
The second semifinal, between Lower Dauphin and Waynesboro, was stopped numerous times by fog. Eventually, the teams decided to end the game in a 4-4 tie and not return to Dillsburg to finish the game. The Mid-Penn awarded the conference tourney title to Red Land. Crazy stuff.
