Great night at Horn Field

Occasionally I get the privilege of seeing a high school game that deserves more attention than the game story has room for. Monday night at Horn Field, Red Lion's baseball game against Spring Grove was that type of contest.

While the final score wasn't close - the Rockets wrapped up the Division I regular season crown with a 7-0 win over the Lions - the atmosphere was terrific.

One of the biggest fields around, most of the main stands at Horn Field were full on spectators for the under the lights game, which started at 7 p.m. Spring Grove had scores of its fans and being at home, on senior night, brought out plenty of Lions faithful. I only wish there would have been an attendance count given.

After surveying the crowd, Red Lion athletic director Arnie Fritzius was understandably pleased that his department decided to change the final YAIAA contest to a night game.

"It was a great environment, under the lights at Horn Field," Lions coach Darren Hake said, despite the loss. "I love playing Spring Grove. They travel well, their fans are there."
