Dallastown raising money for football turf

Every once in a while Dallastown football coach Kevin Myers will heard the questions.

"When are we getting turf?"

Of the six Division I schools in the YAIAA, only Dallastown and South Western still use grass surfaces. With Dallastown's size and its momentum on the football field the last few seasons under Myers, efforts are under way to raise money for renovations to the school's football field.

Myers said earlier this week nearly $250,000 has been raised for a project that would bring FieldTurf to Dallastown. That's about a quarter of the way to the school's goal for its desired turf. The next fundraising project, Myers said, is a car raffle that could add $20,000 to that fund.

The drawing, which is in conjunction with Apple Ford in Red Lion, will take place Saturday, May 18 and is for a 2013 Ford Focus. Raffle tickets are $25.
