District 3 basketball predictions: Class AAAA

OK, here we are with the last of a four-day series. Play-in games begin today, so here are the Class AAAA brackets for District 3 with my predictions.

What makes this boys' bracket so compelling is the presence of three top-10 ranked teams in the PIAA poll: Harrisburg, J.P McCaskey and William Penn, which are seeded in the top three in that order for this tournament.

Click here for the bracket and picks. I'm taking McCaskey to win it, as the Red Tornadoes have been on a roll -- most recently beating then-unbeaten Donegal (a Class AAA favorite) for the Lancaster-Lebanon League tournament title. I will make the proclamation, Bearcat fans, that the winner of a potential McCaskey-William Penn semifinal ends up the tournament champion. However, Harrisburg arguably played the toughest schedule of all and is the top seed.

Head-to-head, McCaskey beat William Penn, which beat Harrisburg, which beat McCaskey. Got that?

OK, now onto the girls' bracket, where Dover is the top seed. The Eagles, led by junior guard Alayah Hall, were undefeated once pairings were announced. Their only blemish is to YAIAA tournament champion Dallastown, which enters the District 3 tourney as a 12th seed. How will the Wildcats match up should they get past Manheim Township and, perhaps, face Central Dauphin after that?

I do have the Wildcats finishing the highest among YAIAA teams but getting to sixth via the consolation rounds. I'll take Wilson to win the tournament. Click here for that.

And finally, tell us your picks with our contest. Click here for more info, but know the deadline is Friday at 5 p.m. Time is running out, if it hasn't already by the time you're reading this.
