Four YAIAA grads pick up all-conference honors


It's that time of year for end-of-season awards, and three YAIAA alumni picked up all-conference honors on Wednesday: York College's Ashley Rineman (Delone Catholic), York's Ashton Burk (Susquehannock) and La Salle's Wendy Hutchinson (Dover).

Update: Thursday brought another winner: York's Jesse Derkson (Susquehannock) also was honored.

Wendy Hutchinson, La Salle cross country

The Dover graduate was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team. It's her second such honor.

The fifth-year senior placed 12th at the A-10 cross country championships, finishing the 5K race in 18:18.6. Hutchinson was the third Explorer to cross the finish line, aiding La Salle’s second-place finish at the event. With her top-15 finish, Hutchinson was named an all-conference selection.

Hutchinson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics and international studies, carrying a 3.80 GPA as an undergraduate. She is pursuing an MBA in management/finance and has posted a 4.0 GPA throughout her tenure as a graduate student.

Ashley Rineman, York College volleyball

The senior Delone Catholic graduate, earned first-team All-Capital Athletic Conference honors. It'>s Rineman's third appearance on the All-CAC squad. She was a second-team selection as a sophomore in 2010 and a first-team libero in 2011.

Rineman capped her career as a Spartan by leading the team in digs, digs per game, total service aces and serve reception percentage. She collected 669 digs, 5.11 digs per game and 52 service aces, and she posted a .946 serve receive percentage.

Rineman finished with 2,545 career digs -- good for second on the Spartans all-time list -- 190 service aces and a .930 serve receive percentage in 2,341 attempts in her 133 career matches. Rineman also had 31 kills, 134 assists and 221 total points.Rineman established a number of career standards in 2012. She had a career-high 43 digs in the Sept. 21 match against Rochester. She had 32 matches with double figures in digs, 15 matches with a digs total in the 20s, two matches with 33 digs, and then her career-high 43 dig effort.For the third year in a row, Rineman paced the Capital Athletic Conference in digs as she averaged 5.11 per game. Her 669 digs were 96 more than the next closest player in the conference. Rineman also ranks eighth in the CAC in service aces.Ashton Burk, York College field hockeyThe Susquehannock graduate earned All-CAC second team honors. For the 2012 season, the senior was a key player in the Spartan midfield. She started all 18 games for the Green and White and recorded 10 points. Burk scored two goals and added six assists, finishing the season with 37 shots. During her three years on the York squad, Burk played in 57 games. She scored two goals and recorded seven assists.Jesse Derkson, York College men's soccerThe Susquehannock grad was named to the All-CAC second team. Derksen, a senior goalkeeper, owns a 0.52 goals-against average and a .845 save percentage. He is first in the CAC in goals-against average, first in save percentage and first in total goals against. Derksen has five shutouts even though he usually doesn't play the whole game when the Spartans are in control. Derksen is ranked 19th in the NCAA in goals-against average and 34th in save percentage. York is ranked 22nd in the nation in goals-against average.
