YAIAA football power rankings, Week 8: West York, Bermudian, Spring Grove stay on top

Last week’s rankings here.

A reminder of the process behind the Top 10: Don’t think of these as a straight-on measure of which team is better in a head-to-head sense -- obviously, if that were the case, the top five would be loaded with Class AAA and AAAA teams most of the time. Instead, think of them as a gauge primarily of which team is playing the best, with record, quality of opponent(s), classification, etc., also factored in.

These are for fun, so treat them as such. That said, please do chime in with your own thoughts in the comments. Opposing opinions are always welcome.

1. West York (T-1) -- Alright no more copping out ... I have to choose between the Bulldogs and Eagles, and for now I'll give the former the edge. West York (7-0) has outscored opponents 178-34 in its last four games, including a 54-13 throttling of Dover on Friday. It also cracked the Pennsylvania Football News' state rankings this week, checking in at No. 10 in Class AAA.

2. Bermudian Springs (T-1) -- Just another week for the Eagles (7-0), who ripped Fairfield on Friday behind Zach Stroup's five touchdown runs. Berm gets Hanover this week, before a tricky finishing stretch against Littlestown and Biglerville. The Eagles stayed at No. 9 in the PFN's Class AA rankings this week.

3. Spring Grove (3) -- Took the Rockets (5-2) a little while to get going Friday, but they eventually pulled away with 21 second-half points to earn a 28-7 win over Red Lion. Big one on tap this Friday, as Spring Grove hosts fellow Division I unbeaten William Penn.

4. Central York (5) -- After a disappointing loss to Spring Grove the previous week, the Panthers (4-3) made a statement Friday by crushing South Western, 54-13. Quarterback Corey Hartz is putting together a pretty phenomenal season: He's completing 56.2 percent of his passes for 1,326 yards, 16 TDs and 7 INTs.

5. Biglerville (4) -- The Canners rolled past Eastern York on Friday to improve to 6-1 and surpass their win total from last season. Biglerville had some hairy moments late in that one, but rode a strong offensive performance -- spurred in part by the return of receiver Tyler Lieberum -- to the win.

6. Littlestown (9) -- The Bolts (5-2) have steadied themselves after back-to-back losses last month. Littlestown finally got its passing game back on track Friday against York County Tech -- Dustin Crouse threw for 211 yards and three touchdowns.

7. Delone Catholic (7) -- Squires fans, meet Matt Giuffreda. The junior fullback rushed for a career-high 123 yards and three touchdowns in an impressive victory over York Catholic. The schedule for Delone (4-3) looks manageable the rest of the way, which games against Fairfield, Eastern York and Hanover still to go.

8. William Penn (NR) -- The Bearcats (3-4) make their first appearance here, following a thrilling comeback win over Dallastown. You can't question this team's heart -- William Penn has won three straight, despite relying in part on underclassmen and playing with a small roster. Now it will play for first place in Division I this week when it travels to Spring Grove.

9. Northeastern (10) --Big game last week for the Bobcats' offense, which posted 386 yards and 41 points in an easy win over Susquehannock. Big two weeks coming up for Northeastern (5-2), with games against Dover and West York. And at No. 14 in the District 3-AAA power rankings, the Bobcats need to keep winning.

10. Dallastown (5) -- Consistency continues to elude this Wildcats team, which is running out of time to put things together. At No. 17 in the District 3-AAAA power rankings, Dallastown (3-4) needs to finish the season strong. That starts with this Friday's home game against Central York.

In the mix: York Catholic (3-4), York Suburban (5-2)
