Athlete Spotlight: Spring Grove's Kayla Yingling

Last year as a junior, Spring Grove's Kayla Yingling was named to the York Daily Record Division I Girls Volleyball All-Star team.

How long have you been playing volleyball?

This will be my fifth year.

How did you get started in the game?

I actually went to the intramurals in sixth grade and loved it.  I tried out for Smackdown in sixth grade and I didn't make the club team and I continued in  seventh grade at the middle school level.

What position do you play?

I am the libero

What is it about volleyball that you love?

I knew a lot of the older girls played it.  So I just kind of went with it.  I was a cheerleader to start off and I wanted to do something else.  I just fell in love with the game and hope to continue playing it in college.  I love the competitive nature of the game and getting to know different people, like playing club with girls from different schools.

How did your team do last year?

We went undefeated the whole season until we played Dover and lost to them, so we split the title with them and were both division champs.  We also came in second in counties.

How does the team look this year?

Good, we are all super close.  We are going to be a short team this year so the success of our season is going to depend a lot on our defense.

What is your favorite night before a match meal?

Anything pasta.

What is your favorite tv show?

Awkward.

What is your favorite movie of all time?

Dirty Dancing.

What is your favorite junk food?

Barbecue chips

Would you rather vacation at a beach or in the mountains?

The beach.

If you could take a vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be?

A beach in Florida.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

"Always shoot for your dreams no matter how short you are or how tall you are," from my parents
