Three from area earn all-state soccer nods

A trio of YAIAA soccer players were selected recently to the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association all-state team: West York's Alex Shinsky and Fred Lucas, along with Dallastown's Christian Kaschak. Shinsky is perhaps the area's most accomplished soccer star. The senior midfielder spent the two seasons prior to this one going to school at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., and playing for the United States U-17 national team. He returned to West York for his senior season and scored 16 goals, despite missing seven of his team's 18 games due to injury. He also added nine assists. Lucas was the area's most prolific goalscorer, pouring in 30 during a stellar senior season. The midfielder also added 12 assists, and was selected as YAIAA Division II's player of the year. He forged a strong partnership with Shinsky, and the two often linked up when they were in the lineup together. Lucas grew up in Costa Rica, before moving to the United States before his freshman year of high school. Kaschak scored 29 goals and added 15 assists for Dallastown, providing a steady scoring threat for the eventual District 3 Class AAA champions. The junior was a versatile threat from the midfield, using his speed, control and field vision to create scoring chances. Kaschak was named the YAIAA Division I player of the year by the league's coaches. For the full list of all-state picks, head here.
