YAIAA football power rankings 11/18

Sorry for the lack of posting this week, folks. I've been tied up with a rather significant feature story due out this weekend. Stay tuned for that. In the meantime, we're doing the power rankings a little different this week. Since there are only four YAIAA teams left in the District 3 playoff, I've split the rankings into two sections: One for the teams still playing and one for teams that have been eliminated. When the football season is over, I'll publish one final edition of the Top 10, re-ranking the teams based on their seasons as a whole. Keep an eye out for that one. For now, here's this week's (modified) Top 10. The teams still playing1. Dallastown -- The Wildcats are the lone undefeated team left in the YAIAA, and one of just of four left in District 3, after last week's 28-14 win against Conestoga Valley. Dallastown was even ranked No. 8 in the state in the Pennsylvania Football News' most recent rankings. 2. Red Lion -- The Lions (8-3) earned their coveted rematch with Dallastown with a 14-13 home win against J.P. McCaskey. It was ugly win -- neither team played near its best game -- but a win nonetheless. Senior running back Jeremy Knaub has turned it on lately; he has at least 75 rushing yards and a touchdown in each of the last four games. 3. Bermudian Springs -- The Eagles pulled the shocker of the season last week. It's not just that Bermudian (8-3) beat Littlestown, a team it had lost to two weeks earlier. It was the way Berm did it: By completely dominating both sides of the ball during a 37-0 win. The seventh-seeded Eagles will have to tame another high-flying offense this week, when they visit No. 3 Trinity. 4. York Catholic -- Unlike the other three YAIAA teams still standing, the Irish (7-3) didn't even have to play a game last week. York Catholic earned that bye by securing the No. 2 seed in the District 3-A tournament, and will host third-seeded Millersburg on Friday. The winner earns a slot in the district title game in Hershey next week. The teams who are done5. Littlestown -- A disappointing end to an otherwise outstanding season. The Thunderbolts (10-1) had not scored fewer than 38 points in a game this season before being shut out Friday. 6. West York -- The Bulldogs (8-3) failed to win a district playoff game for the first time since the 2006 season, falling to a very physical Cocalico team, 28-21. 7. Spring Grove -- The Rockets finished 6-5 after a first-round loss to Cumberland Valley, but think about some of the teams Spring Grove lost to: West York, Susquehanna Township, Dallastown and the defending district champion Eagles. All four of those games were relatively close, too. 8. Delone Catholic -- What many saw as a rebuilding year for the Squires ends with a gaudy 9-2 record, but also a narrow first-round loss to Wyomissing. 9. Dover -- Let's not allow a lopsided loss to Manheim Central sully an otherwise impressive turnaround by the Eagles. Going from 0-10 to 6-5 is pretty good. 10. William Penn -- Even with quarterback Kelvin Parker in the lineup, Friday's visit to Governor Mifflin would have been a tall order. Without Parker, who missed the game for undisclosed reasons, the Bearcats (5-6) had little chance.
