Local swimmers compete in YMCA nationals


Several members of the York Y aquatic club team are in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for the YMCA swimming nationals and are doing quite well against some of the best competition around.



During Wednesday's first day, Hali Flickinger finished second in the women's 500 free with a time of 4:44.19, only .05 off the top spot. Sada Stewart won the 200 individual medley in 2:01.15. In that same event, Julia Kucherich (2:05.41) placed 14th and Morgan Pfaff (2:05.85) was 16th. The 200 medley relay of Stewart, Taylor Brew, Sarah Dotzel and Kucherich was 17th in 1:47.85 and Caleb Tuten placed 18th in the men's 200 IM with a 1:52.86.



During Thursday's second day, Stewart grabbed fourth (54.98) and Dotzel seventh (56.19) in the 100 butterfly. Stewart was also sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:50.44). Kucherich was 23rd (2:22.47) in the women's 200 breaststroke and the 400 free relay team of Stewart, Dotzel, Niki Price and Hali Flickinger notched a fourth-place medal with a 3:27.34. Tuten was ninth (2:04.16) in the men's breaststroke.
