Rain, rain go away

Yuck. That's about the only word I can use to describe tonight's weather. Rainy, unseasonably chilly and, perhaps worst of all, windy. It's no wonder that eight of the 20 football games in the area were postponed by mother nature.

My own odyssey tonight was as follows: I was supposed to take in William Penn's visit to J.P. McCaskey, but once that was postponed I hydroplaned over to Central York High School, where the Panthers were on the field, warming up to face Lower Dauphin. I ambled into the press box around 6:20 and not 30 seconds later, an official gets a call that the game's been postponed. Not sure exactly why the game was called. Central, after all, has a turf field. Not to mention Lower Dauphin now has to make the 31-mile trek back to Hummelstown, and then make the same drive again tomorrow for a 2 p.m. make-up.

In any event, in case you missed them, here's a list of tonight's postponements and make-up times.

  • Lower Dauphin at Central York -- 2 p.m. Saturday.
  • Dallastown at West York -- 6 p.m. Saturday.
  • Spring Grove at Lebanon -- 7 p.m. Saturday.
  • Trinity at Delone Catholic -- 7 p.m. Saturday.
  • Shippensburg at Northern York -- 7 p.m. Saturday.
  • Northern Lebanon at New Oxford -- 6:30 p.m. Monday.
  • Bermudian Springs at Dover -- 6:30 p.m. Monday.
  • William Penn at J.P. McCaskey -- 6 p.m. Monday.
  • Finally, in yet another unfortunate turn for the Hanover football team, the Nighthawks game at Big Spring has been canceled by Hanover, because of concern over an outbreak of staph infections at Big Spring. First, Carson-Long's inability to field a team forced an impromptu road trip to Line Mountain in Week 1. And now this. The Nighthawks can't catch a break.
