Bearcats' Parker gets nod; Central undecided

On the eve of opening night, just wanted to pass along an update on the quarterback competitions at a pair of YAIAA schools.

William Penn: Tim Hibbs said junior Kelvin Parker has won the quarterback job for this season. Northeastern transfer Roger Eaton was expected to challenge Parker, but has since been moved to center.

Parker should provide a more dynamic threat, able to create plays with his feet or arm. Eaton, a senior, was more of a pocket passer, Hibbs said.

Central York: The Panthers' situation is a bit more murky. As of Wednesday night, coach Brad Livingston had yet to decide between sophomore Brandon Baker and senior Zach Sprenkle.

"We had a big discussion tonight among the coaching staff," Livingston said. "We really wanted to be able to name a starter tonight. ... It could just be the sort of thing where it comes down to my gut feeling Friday night."

Baker seemed like the favorite heading into camp. He's the son of Central offensive coordinator Matt Baker, a former quarterback at Temple.
