Top 10 L-L videos of 2015-16
Another high school sports season has come and gone. With summer kicking into high gear, now seems like a good time to reflect on some of the best moments caught on video this season. Here is my completely subjective top ten videos list of the 2015-16 L-L sports season.
10. Solanco football advances to District 3 Class AAA semifinals
In the most historic season in Solanco football history, the Mules defeated Lampeter-Strasburg, 54-20 to advance to the district semifinals.
9. McCaskey claims 2016 L-L boys’ basketball title
In the final matchup between L-L stars Kobe Gantz and Evan Horn, the Red Tornado finally got over the hump and defeated the Falcons, 54-47 to cut down the nets.
8. Lancaster Catholic’s Jon Ware hits buzzer beater vs Columbia.
Lancaster Catholic's Jon Ware drained a game-winning shot to push Lancaster Catholic past Columbia 58-57 on January 28.
7. Hempfield defeats Penn Manor in extra innings to win L-L softball title
This game had star power, drama and needed an extra inning before Hempfield pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Comets. Both of these teams have an enormous amount of respect for each other and the game reflected that before, during and after.
6. Northern Lebanon basketball upsets Lancaster Catholic in PIAA playoffs
After suffering three losses to the Crusaders earlier in the year, the Vikings were finally able to defeat Lancaster Catholic, 54-45 to advance to the PIAA Class AAA quarterfinals.
5. The Ballers vs Bloggers series
This is a package deal as I must send huge thanks to Emily Zwiercan (Cocalico), the Pequea Valley football team and the Lancaster Mennonite boys’ volleyball team. These segments are just plain fun to make while highlighting the exceptional skills of L-L athletes.
Episode 6: John Buffone vs Lancaster Mennonite boys' volleyball
Episode 5: John Buffone vs Pequea Valley Football
Episode 4: John Buffone vs Emily Zwiercan (soccer)
4. Ephrata claims first ever district title in baseball
History was made on June 2 when Ephrata claimed its first ever District 3 Class AAAA title with a 7-4 win over Governor Mifflin.
3. Solanco shocks Penn Manor in L-L baseball title game
In a 12-inning thriller, Solanco’s Mike Worthington crossed the plate in the bottom of the 12th inning vs Penn Manor to clinch The Mules’ first league title since 2007.
2. Hype videos
This is another package deal. These are some of my favorite videos as big games approach and L-L teams are involved. Whether you’re a player, coach or fan, we could all use a pre-game shot of adrenaline.
Lancaster Catholic/Berks Catholic (Girls' basketball district title game)
Hempfield Penn Manor (L-L softball title game)
Penn Manor/Solanco (L-L baseball title game)
1. Nate Trimble offers starting spot to teammate after his father passes away
This one was a no-brainer for me. Hempfield senior defensive lineman Nate Trimble offered his Week 1 starting spot to sophomore Evan Pritchard, whose father passed away a week before. Not only did Pritchard start, he put his stamp on the game when he tallied a sack as time wound down.
