L-L baseball playoffs to resume Monday

EPHRATA- Saturday’s L-L baseball quarterfinals were 50 percent completed before Mother Nature intervened and opened the skies.

In the top of the fourth inning, rained forced Lancaster Catholic and Ephrata to suspend play until Monday. The Crusaders and Mountaineers will resume play at 4pm at War Memorial Stadium in Ephrata.

Following completion of that game, Lampeter-Strasburg and Hempfield will play their quarterfinals matchup at 5:30.

Prior to heavy rains, Lancaster Catholic led Ephrata 3-0 with Casey Regan, Chris Schreder and Tyler Peters all racking up RBI. Peters smashed a solo homerun in the top of the second inning.

Crusaders pitcher Willie Burger was having a fantastic start until the game was called; racking up six strikeouts while allowing just one hit through three innings. Burger’s fastball hit the mid-90s according to the radar gun at War Memorial Field.

The winner of Lancaster Catholic/ Ephrata will take on the winner of L-S/Hempfield in the next round. The other semifinal game was decided earlier in the day when Annville-Cleona defeated Solanco, 1-0 and Northern Lebanon defeated Warwick, 3-2 in eight innings
