Timochenko looks ready to be full-time starter

Being the starting quarterback for a football team involves a lot of pressure.

Being the starting quarterback for Wilson High school however, is a whole other story.

Senior Matt Timochenko stepped into the starting role for the Bulldogs in week 8 of last season but will be the full-time starter heading into 2013. Timochenko will be thrust into a leadership role of the defending L-L champs, District 3 champs and PIAA semifinalists. Not to mention, a program that has averaged 12.2 wins per season since 2008.

“We’re settled at the quarterback position which we really weren’t last year. We used three different quarterbacks throughout the course of the year,” Wilson head coach Doug Dahms said. “Timochenko started the last seven games for us so he’s settled in. He’s doing a nice job so far and he’s going to be a big key to our offense this year.”

In his seven games played, Timochenko threw for 570 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions.

In 2013, Wilson will be without offensive weapons like running backs Jesse Poore and Jim Brooks as well as leading receiver Javon Young. Throw in the fact that the Bulldogs are only returning one defensive starter and it’s easy to see how vital Timochenko’s play will be for Wilson this season.

“We lost a lot so I know there’s going to be more of role for me to take over the offense and make it happen,” Timochenko. “Last year, we had so many weapons offensively that my job was just to manage. But this year, we lost a lot of our weapons so I feel the offensive really has to come through me so there will be a lot more pressure for me to put points on the board.”

Timochenko and the Bulldogs will kick off their 2013 campaign on August 30 when they travel to Governor Mifflin.
