L-L Playoffs primed for excitement

One thing is for sure. The L-L baseball playoffs are going to be intense.

The fireworks have already begun with Tuesday’s section one tiebreaker game at Ephrata’s War Memorial Field.

Hempfield rallied back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Warwick, 4-3 thanks to a walk-off single by second baseman Anthony Dornes.

“We have a lot of confidence in Anthony. He’s a very good hitter,” Hempfield coach Jeremy Morrison said. “He has a lot of confidence in himself and it was fitting to me that he was up in that spot after having trouble early in the game.”

If Saturday’s events are anything like Tuesday’s tiebreakers, it’s going to be a wild day.

Both Hempfield and Warwick will return to War Memorial Field this weekend for the first round of league playoffs. The Black Knights’ section one crown secures a matchup with section four runner-up, Annville Cleona (12-8) while second place Warwick has earned a date with section one champion Lancaster Catholic (16-3).

Here are the L-L playoff matchups for Saturday.

Hempfield vs Annville-Cleona

The Blank Knights are riding high after winning their section one tiebreaker game with Warwick while the Dutchmen have won four of their last five games.

Lancaster Catholic vs Warwick

A high powered Crusader pitching staff paired with an even more powerful lineup will be a tall task for the Warriors who will have to quickly put Tuesday’s heartbreaker behind them.

Donegal vs Solanco

The Indians bring an impressive 18-2 record to the table against Solanco squad that finished 12-7 overall with a 10-6 record in section two.

Ephrata vs Manheim Central

The Mountaineers finished atop section two and scored 31 runs in their final three games but will have their hands full against Manheim Central who finished the season on a three game winning streak in a very tough section three.
