Baseball district rankings: Biglerville still clinging to district playoff spot

With just more than a week left before the final power ranking deadline, several Hanover-Adams area teams are keeping a close eye on the preliminary rankings. The latest set was released on Tuesday. Power ratings are determined by a formula that factors each team’s winning percentage and their opponent’s winning percentage.

Class AA – top 10 teams qualify for postseason

In: Delone Catholic (12-7, fifth out of 19 teams, .5699 rating), Biglerville (8-10, 10th, .4538)

Biglerville is still clinging to that final spot, so every game from here on out has a feeling of huge importance. The first happens today, as the the Canners finish a suspended game against Delone Catholic. Speaking of the Squires, they will boost Biglerville's strength of schedule as they remain in the top five in the district for Class AA. Coach Doug Arnold said he hopes his team can hang onto a top-six placement to avoid playing a play-in game.

Out: Fairfield (5-10-1, 14th, .3957), Hanover (1-15, 19th, .2661)

Fairfield will still play a few quality opponents, but even winning out might not be enough.

Class AAA – top 16 teams qualify for postseason

In: Spring Grove (14-6, fifth out of 37 teams, .7022 rating)

It looks like the newly-minted YAIAA Division I champions will head into the postseason as a top-five team in Class AAA. The strength of schedule will only rise from here with a league playoff game against West York on Friday, and possibly a second quality opponent in the league title game.

Out: Gettysburg (8-7, 22nd, .5504), Littlestown (10-7, 26th, .5365), Bermudian Springs (9-11, 31st, .4887)

Don't look now, but Gettysburg is steadily moving up. Coach Ryan Brady said last week that he thinks his team still has a chance to qualify if it can keep winning, because of a strong strength of schedule. His team will play more games than anyone else in the next eight days as they make up for rained-out games earlier in the season and finish a game against York Suburban that was suspended in the 14th inning on Monday.
