A look at the week ahead: May 4-9

For most sports, it's the last week of the regular season. Divisional races are coming down to the wire and teams are fighting for their postseason lives. That supplies plenty of drama and storylines as we take a look at the week ahead.

May 4: Biglerville at York Catholic, baseball, 4:15

The Canners, who have won five of their last seven, sit in the ninth spot out of 10 in AA district playoffs. A few wins this week would be crucial to securing their position. The Irish sit three spots ahead of Biglerville, so this presents an opportunity for a signature win.

May 5: South Western at Gettysburg, softball, 4:15

Both teams are right on the bubble for the district playoffs, making this a must-win for both squads. It was a game that was supposed to happen in mid-April, but thanks to some bad weather, it turns into a huge, end-of-season matchup.

May 5: Spring Grove at Kennard-Dale, boys volleyball, 7:00

Both squads are among the last four currently holding playoff spots. They both need wins to secure their district playoff slots. The Rockets have won four of their last six to move up the rankings. Kennard-Dale will be playing their second match in two days. Who prevails?

May 8: YAIAA track and field championships at Dallastown, 4 pm

Both the girls and guys will be at Dallastown on Friday to crown league champions. If you see any track and field events all year, this is the one to see. When the whole league gets together, the competition heats up, and it's a great event for fans to see.

May 5-8: District boys tennis tourney at Hershey Racquet Club

South Western (12-1) takes on Central Dauphin in the AAA team tournament on Tuesday. Win and move on to play Wednesday and possibly Thursday in the district championship.
