Baseball district rankings: Spring Grove, Littlestown, Delone Catholic currently in

The first PIAA District 3 baseball power rankings were released Tuesday, so it’s time to take a look at which Hanover-Adams area teams are in, on the bubble or on the outside looking in. Power ratings are determined by a formula that factors each team's winning percentage and their opponent's winning percentage.

Class AA - top 10 teams qualify for postseason

In: Delone Catholic (7-5, ninth out of 19 teams, .5193 rating)

Delone Catholic is the only of the four Hanover-Adams area teams in Class AA that would be in districts if they started today. But the Squires don't have much room for error, as a drop of two spots would leave them on the outside-looking-in.

Work left to do: Biglerville (5-8, 13th, .4179), Fairfield (2-8, 16th, .3399), Hanover (1-10, 18th, .2796)

Biglerville is the only of these three teams that really has a chance to sneak in, but the Canners probably need to win out in order to do it. They'll need to pass at least three teams in order to get into the top 10.

Class AAA - top 16 teams qualify for postseason

In: Littlestown (8-2, 13th out of 37 teams, .6367 rating)

Littlestown started out 8-0, but the Bolts' rating is being dragged down by a weak strength of schedule. They sit pretty firmly on the bubble at this point and will need to win several more games in order to ensure a spot in the postseason.

Work left to do: Bermudian Springs (7-7, 27th, .5098), Gettysburg (4-5, 30th, .4942)

Both of these teams have been playing very well lately, but prolonged losing streaks earlier in the season leave them in a pretty bad position. With so many teams standing between them and the final district spot, it's a pretty safe bet that neither will sneak into the postseason.

Class AAAA - top 16 teams qualify for postseason

In: none

Work left to do: South Western (4-7, 26th out of 35 teams, .5226 rating), New Oxford (6-8, 27th, .5158)

The strength (or lack thereof) of YAIAA Division I isn't doing these teams any favors. Like Bermudian Springs and Gettysburg, both South Western and New Oxford will probably not be able to recover from tough early-season stretches.
