The Week Ahead: April 21-26

MONDAY, APRIL 21

Baseball

Spring Grove at Delone Catholic, 4:15: Two of the top teams in the Hanover-area square off against each other as Spring Grove travels to McSherrystown to take on Delone Catholic. The Rockets have been hard-luck losers in their last two contests, falling to West York 3-0 and Susquehannock 2-1. The Rockets have received strong pitching performances all year long. Outside of their season opening 25-11 win against Solanco, Spring Grove pitchers have allowed 2.1 runs per game. Delone Catholic comes into the contest at 8-2 having just stopped a two-game losing streak and they are three-and-a-half games up in the YAIAA Divison IV race. The Squires are led by ace Dalton Haymaker who has four wins on the season and has also chipped in three doubles with his bat. This game has the makings of a masterpiece.

Tennis

South Western at Central York, 3:30: If this looks familiar in the look-ahead blog, it should. South Western was scheduled to travel to Central York last week, but a rainout prevented the showdown. Now the match is the last for either team, both undefeated in the YAIAA-I, for the regular season. The No. 3 matchup between South Western’s Gavin Kenny and Raphael Hotea will give one of the netters their first loss. The winner of this contest claims the YAIAA-I title.

TUESDAY, APRIL 22

Track and Field

Dallastown at South Western, 3:45: The Dallastown girls suffered a loss to Red Lion earlier this year, so that title is still up for grabs after the Wildcats visit South Western. However, for the boys, this will likely be the showdown for the YAIAA division title. Dallastown is the favorite in 11 of 18 events based on this year’s results, but the Mustangs will have the home track advantage. The matchup between South Western’s Logan Bowman and Adam Stetzer in the 400 should be a treat.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23

Baseball

Delone Catholic at Bermudian Springs, 4:15:  The Squires will be put to the test this week. After a tough match-up on Monday against Spring Grove, the Squires come right back and square off with Bermudian Springs. The Eagles are the hottest team in the Hanover-area having won four straight games. In that span they have outscored opponents 44-20. Bermudian sits two-and-a-half games behind YAIAA Division III leader Susquehannock, who the Eagles fell to 3-1 earlier. The season is winding down and if the Eagles hope to make the league tournament, Wednesday is a must-win game.

THURSDAY, APRIL 24

Lacrosse

South Western at Dallastown, 4:15: South Western currently sits atop the YAIAA Division I standings, holding a two-game lead over Dallastown. The Wildcats have been up and down all season long, unable to play consistent lacrosse. The Mustangs have fell on a string of bad luck recently, losing their last two contests by a total of six goals. South Western possesses the third most potent offense in the YAIAA and have four goal scorers with 30 goals or more. Make no mistake about it, the Mustangs go as Callie Kavanaugh goes. The senior leads the team with 55 goals but is also a force defensively. A South Western win will pretty much wrap up the division.

FRIDAY, APRIL 25

Tennis

YAIAA Singles tournament, YTD: An entire season of tennis comes down to one big tournament held at South Western and Dallastown. The area’s top players will begin a three-day tournament that decides who will go on to the District 3 Championships. South Western’s Quin Meyer is the most likely candidate from the Adams/ Hanover area.
