The week ahead: April 14-18

MONDAY, APRIL 14

Girls Lacrosse

Kennard-Dale at South Western 4:15 - Strap on your seat belts, this one has the makings of a shootout. The two teams are one and three in the league in goals per game average respectively. Kennard-Dale comes in at 6-1 and boasts the YAIAA leading goal scorer in Morgan Day. She comes into the contest with 51 goals and 21 assists. On the other side of the field is the Mustangs who have one of the most potent offenses in the league. They have four players who have double-digit goals on the season and are led by senior Callie Kavanaugh and her 33 goals and 14 assists. In addition to having a potent offense, the Mustangs also posses the league’s top ranked defense. The Mustangs have allowed a league low 42 goals.

TUESDAY, APRIL 15

Softball

West York at Delone Catholic, 4:15 - The Squirettes haven’t lost since their first game against Littlestown. They’ll put their win streak on the line when they face West York, a team that beat the Thunderbolts, 3-2, a week before. Kennard-Dale and West York are still in a battle for first place in the YAIAA-3, so both teams have plenty to play for. Delone’s reward if they beat West York? A home game against Kennard-Dale the next day.

Boys’ tennis

South Western at Central York, 3:30 - The Mustangs were the favorite to win the division entering the season and have played up to that potential. A 7-0 sweep of New Oxford and a 5-2 win against Dallastown has left only Central York to beat. The Panthers are 9-0 this season and won’t lay down for the Mustangs. Last year South Western was the favorite to win the division and lost a 4-3 match to Dallastown. The Mustangs won’t want to let that happen again.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16

Baseball

West York at Spring Grove 4:15 - West York comes in undefeated at 5-0 and they are the reigning two-time PIAA Class AAA state champion. The Bulldogs sit atop the YAIAA Division II standings and are led by NC State bound-junior Brett Kinneman who has three doubles on the season. Spring Grove is at the head of the class in Division I at 6-2 on the season and are riding a three game winning streak. The Rockets have pounded out 12 extra base hits and are allowing a mere three runs per game. If you are a baseball fan, this is a can’t miss game!

THURSDAY, APRIL 17

Boys’ Tennis

Delone Catholic at Littlestown, 3:30 - Being at the bottom of the standings can be difficult, but one of these teams will head into the holiday weekend with its first win. Delone Catholic senior Ben Gutierrez got his first win versus Bermudian Springs and will look to keep it going. Brandon Staub will do what he can to prevent that.
