The week Ahead: 4/7 - 4/12

MONDAY, APRIL 7

Softball

York County Tech at Hanover, 4:15 p.m. - With a combined 0-8 record, one of these teams are going to get to celebrate their first victory. The YAIAA Division IV has not started off so well, with only three of its teams claiming wins so far. Biglerville has a chance at a win against Fairfield on Monday, so this one could decide who is alone at the bottom.

TUESDAY, APRIL 8

Tennis

New Oxford at South Western, 3:30 p.m. - Upstart New Oxford has never been 7-0 before. If the Colonials want to get to 8-0, they will have to knock off the YAIAA Division-I favorite Mustangs. South Western No. 1 Quin Meyer will have his work cut out for him against New Oxford’s Mike Gruver, but the Mustangs are probably favored to win this one. The victor will have to get through a tough Central York team to claim the division, but this would set the tone for either team.

Track & Field

Littlestown at Biglerville, 3:45 p.m. - The Thunderbolts survived a tight contest at home against Bermudian Springs, keeping alive their chances to repeat as YAIAA champs alive. Biglerville poses a threat, with several talented athletes waiting for their chance at an upset. Biglerville’s Danny Stoner (13-3) is the only pole vaulter in the YAIAA with a better height than Littlestown’s Brent Chrismer (12-6) so far.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9

Girls’ lacrosse

Central York at South Western 4:15 p.m. - A showdown of the top two girls’ lacrosse teams in YAIAA Division I play. The Mustangs are currently 3-0 in the division and 5-1 overall. The Mustangs are led by senior Callie Kavanaugh and her 27 goals. Central York comes in winners of their last two games. The Panthers are 3-3 overall but 2-0 in the division. They are led by MacKenzie Windsor, who has 17 goals. The Panthers have scored 37 goals in their last two games.

Softball

Susquehannock at Spring Grove, 4:15 p.m. - Spring Grove figured to be the favorite to win the YAIAA Division II for the fifth year standing, but that was before a loss to Dover shook things up. The Warriors are still undefeated in and out of the division and have a tendency to put their foot on the throttle once they know they have the upper hand. This contest will mean a lot if Spring Grove wants another shot at a title.

THURSDAY, APRIL 10

Track & Field

Hanover at Fairfield, 3:45 p.m.- For a pair of small schools, the girls’ track & field teams are pretty competitive. Morgan Herrick and her Hawkettes will travel to Fairfield in an attempt to stay undefeated in the division. When the two smallest schools in the YAIAA clash, it’s hard to know who will come out on top.

FRIDAY, APRIL 11

Baseball

Delone Catholic at Hanover 4:15 p.m. - An early season battle for supremacy in YAIAA Division IV will pit the undefeated Delone Catholic Squires who are currently 3-0 and have only allowed two runs in their first three games. The bottom of the lineup has stepped it up for Delone as the Squires three returning starters are hitting a mere 3-for-26. Hanover is 2-2 overall but 2-1 in the division. After starting the season 0-2, the Nighthawks have won their last two of their last three contests.
