Overtime win propels Gettysburg boys past Conrad Weiser, into state tournament

They may have had to put in some overtime, but the 11th-seeded Gettysburg boys' basketball squad is headed to states after a thrilling, 56-49 win over 10th-seeded Conrad Weiser Monday night in Lebanon.

The win sends the Warriors (16-9) to the District 3 Class AAA fifth-place game opposite Berks Catholic (17-10) - a 60-58 winner over West York - on Thursday at a site and time to be determined.

"The guys are really happy (to be in states)," said Warriors' coach Jeff Bair. "That's great, absolutely."

Gettysburg jumped out to a 24-17 halftime lead over the Scouts (17-10) thanks in part to their athletic defense, including a series of steals by game-high scorer Marquise Camel (24 points).

Yet Conrad Weiser would make a run in the fourth quarter, taking a 39-36 lead over the Warriors with under a minute to play. But

Max Lampe (12 points) drilled a game-tying three from the corner to send the game into overtime.

"I thought we were well in control, then they made a run and actually took a lead," Bair said. "Max stepped up and hit a big shot and we got to overtime. I thought in the overtime, we took care of what we needed to take care of."

Lampe hit another three, and the Warriors sealed the deal by going 9-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Colin Bortner (9), Tyler Lampe (6), and Jordan Turner (4) also made the scorebook for Gettysburg. Cartier Talford and Drew Gibbel paced Conrad Weiser with 11 points each.
