WRESTLER OF THE YEAR
Chance Marsteller, 160, Jr., Kennard-Dale:
The Ram wrestler claimed PIAA Class AAA title No. 3, making it two in a row at 160, dominating a defending state champion in the state final for the second consecutive year.
This time, Marsteller racked up seven takedowns in recording a 17-5 major decision over Central Dauphin's Garrett Peppelman. His 40-0 season, which moved his career mark to 125-0, included his third District 3 and Section V titles and solidified his standing as one -- if the not the -- top recruit in the entire country.
ALL-STARS
Devon Ackerman, 285, Sr., South Western: The Mustang big man reached the District 3 semifinals, losing to the eventual champion. He finished with a 29-8 record, missing a trip to states by one win.
Mason Bentzel, 145, Jr., Spring Grove: The Rocket middleweight made the most of his first trip to Giant Center, claiming a seventh-place PIAA medal. A sectional crown and a District 3 silver medal were major accomplishments in his 42-6 season.
Derek Carlisle, 113, Sr., Spring Grove: The Rocket lightweight capped an excellent career with a berth in the state tournament after reaching the District 3 semifinals. He helped Spring Grove go deeper than ever before in the state team tournament, ending up with a 35-13 mark and reaching the century mark.
Dylan Chatterton, 106, Fr., Central York: The Panther wrestler capped a successful first varsity season by reaching state semifinals before settling for a fifth-place medal. His 31-4 season included a sectional crown and a third-place finish at districts.
Zach Clingan, 120, Jr., Spring Grove: A PIAA appearance topped an outstanding season for the lightweight. He became the first junior to reach the 100-win mark in program history, finishing with a 40-8 record with a second sectional title.
Cooper Deller, 182, Sr., Dallastown: The Wildcat wrestler used an improved neutral attack to reach the state tournament, ending his fourth year in the starting lineup with a 33-6 record. The member of the century win club finished second at the District 3 tournament after pinning his way to a sectional championship.
Tanner Druck, 152, Sr., Dallastown: The four-year starter for the Wildcats made the state tournament aside best friend Deller. The middleweight registered win No. 100 this year and claimed a third consecutive Section V title as well as a fourth-place finish at the District 3 championships.
Wes Hoover, 138, Jr., Dallastown: The Wildcat middleweight ended the district tournament with four straight wins to earn a third-place finish and a spot at Giant Center. He excelled in winning low scoring matches, finishing his third year in the Dallastown lineup 30-11.
Dakota Laughman, 132, Jr., Spring Grove: The Rocket lightweight missed qualifying for states by one win at the district tournament. Despite a broken wrist bone, the three-year starter finished 34-8 and won a second straight sectional crown.
Aram Moffitt 220, Sr., South Western: The Mustang heavyweight reached the district semifinals, losing a heartbreaker there in the last five seconds. He came back to finish fourth and reach the state tournament during his 30-7 season.
Tyler Schell, 182, Sr., Red Lion: The returning PIAA qualifier fell short of earning a return trip to Hershey, getting upset in consecutive District 3 matches. A Section V crown was part of a 29-6 season.
Rodney Sunday, 126, Jr., Dallastown: A fifth-place PIAA medal capped off a third year in the Wildcat lineup, ending the season at 37-9. After his second consecutive section title, he reached the district semifinals and finished third.
Owen Wherley, 106, Fr., South Western: The Mustang lightweight made the district quarterfinals before nearly wrestling back to earn a state bid. Wherley won two consolation matches before dropping a 9-3 decision to fellow all-star Chatterton. Wherley ended his season with a 28-5 record. .
Honorable mention: Ross Drawbaugh, Dover; Shaheed Mitchell, Dover; Kyle Narber, West York; Pat Scarborough, Kennard-Dale; Garrett Stauffer, West York; Derek Wilson, South Western.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Tony Miller, Spring Grove: The veteran coach led his team to yet another high water mark, advancing to Giant Center for the PIAA Class AAA Team Wrestling Championships, finishing the season 24-3 with the program's fifth consecutive Section V team title. The regular season featured titles from Central York Duals, Warwick Duals and the Penn Manor tournament to go with another YAIAA Division I title.
