It was a banner year for York-Adams basketball teams in the District 3 tournament. After sending seven teams to Hershey's Giant Center for six different championship games, local teams came home with three sets of gold medals and four silvers.
The action was capped by William Penn's dramatic comeback to beat Cedar Crest for the Class AAAA boys' championship, the Bearcats' second district title in four years.
The YAIAA's total of six District 3 finalists was its second-highest total of league finalists since the district expanded to four classifications in 1984.Only the 2011 season, when seven league teams reached the finals, had more league teams reach championship games.
The league total doesn't even include York's own New Hope Academy. The Mighty Ants play an independent schedule and won the school's first district championship after falling one win short of their goal in 2012.
