Division I Girls' Tennis Player of the Year
Katie Wagner, Susquehannock: The Warriors senior played at No. 1 singles for the fourth straight year, capping an outstanding career with her second straight girls' tennis Division I Player of the Year award, and it's no wonder. Wagner lost only one match all season -- in the PIAA quarterfinals. Before that, she won 22 straight, including the YAIAA and District 3 Class AAA championships.
It was her third straight league and second consecutive district title, which helped boost her career to an impressive 84-11 record in singles.
In doubles, Wagner and Chelsey Simmers combined to capture the YAIAA championship, before she teamed with Nicole Daacke to place second at districts and reach the state quarterfinals. She was 56-14 in doubles over her four years with the Warriors.
"Katie has been a joy to coach and has been so coachable and wonderful to work with each and every year," Susquehannock coach Marianne Michaels said of Wagner, who is also a standout basketball player for the Warriors.
