After running out to a big lead, the Bermudian Springs High boys' basketball team held off a furious Big Spring rally to hold on for a win, while the Bermudian girls succumbed to a stifling Bulldogs' defensive effort in the nightcap of a non-league doubleheader Saturday at Bermudian Springs High School.

Bermudian's YAIAA Division III-leading boys' team won 43-28, while the Big Spring girls dropped Bermudian's girls to 5-6 with a 44-33 decision.

In the boys' game, the Eagles' Neil Murren recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Bermudian scored on six of its first 10 possessions, running out to a 12-3 lead and never looking back.

Late in the second quarter, Bermudian began an 18-0 run when Murren recorded a three-point play when he scored a putback layup and hit the free throw.

Bermudian took a 24-11 lead into the half, then used their fullcourt pressure to wreak havoc early in the third.

Alex Huntington started things when he scored a quick layup off a pass from Alex Orwig. Orwig then stole the ball after it was inbounded and swung it to Austin Hartzell, who hit Murren under the basket for a layup.

Hartzell recorded a steal at half court after the ensuing inbound play, and the ball ended up in the hands of Silas Murren, who was fouled cutting to the hoop and hit two free throws.

Big Spring finally got the ball to the other side of halfcourt, but after a dead-ball situation, Hartzell inbounded the ball under the Bermudian hoop and hit Neil Murren with a pass at halfcourt. Neil Murren found Huntington under the hoop for another layup.

Later, Neil Murren came up with a steal in the backcourt and passed to Zach Stroup in the frontcourt. Stroup found Silas Murren at the backdoor for another layup and a 34-11 lead.

After Neil Murren drained another three, the Bulldogs' Dalton Donica scored a bucket to end the run and start a 13-0 run for Big Spring. Tyler Pion knocked down two jump shots for Big Spring to end the quarter.

Pion hit a pull-up jumper to start the fourth, and the Bulldgos continued to chip away at the lead, but a 1-for-4 stretch from the free throw line killed the momentum.

Big Spring was paced offensively by Ben Bailey, who scored 13 points and added a team-high nine rebounds.

Big Spring benefitted from a double-double by Dalida Camzdic in the girls' game.

Camdzic scored a team-leading 14 points while yanking down 13 rebounds and swatting five Bermudian shots.

Bermudian's leading scorer, Shannon Kuhn, was held under her season average of 16 points per game as she scored 10.

Kuhn started and finished the game with flurries, scoring two baskets it the first five minutes of the game and hitting a jumper and two free throws late in the fourth in an attempt to ignite a comeback. In between, a scrappy defensive effort by the Bulldogs limited her to just two points.

In addition, the Eagles were outscored 29-14 during the middle stretch of the game.

Bermudian's Taylor Mayers contributed a team-high 14 points and four steals.
