After watching tape of Northeastern High before facing the Bobcats in the opening round of the Gettysburg Lions Club Holiday Tournament on Thursday, Delone Catholic boys' basketball head coach Jim Dooley admitted to being scared about having to face them.

Those concerns don't seem to be well-founded after the Squires dominated in their 64-48 victory to move on to the championship game.

"I watched them on tape and they scared me to death," the veteran head coach said after the game. "They did a lot of things well. Our kids are doing a miraculous job, though. Given the lack of practice time, playing a bunch of games and what not."

The Squires will take on Chambersburg, a 64-58 winner over previously undefeated host Gettysburg, in the championship tilt at 8 p.m. today. The Warriors face Northeastern in the consolation matchup at 6:30 p.m.

Delone (5-2) led 16-10 after the first quarter as all 10 of the Bobcats' points in the opening stanza came from Mount St. Mary's University recruit Khalid Nwandu, including a 3-pointer that he banked at the quarter horn.

Nwandu finished the game with 26 points and six rebounds.

"We wanted to double him and make him give up the ball," Dooley said. "We didn't do that too well, but the other guys didn't really hurt us."

Strong play from sophomore Devon Moore helped the Squires to a 28-19 halftime lead, and he finished the night with 26 points to match his career-high.

Then a very efficient third quarter boosted the lead to 42-28, and eventually 45-28, before the Bobcats tried to get back into it.

Northeastern (5-2) drew within 50-40 with 3:08 left, but the Squires knocked down their last 10 free throw attempts of the game to salt it away.

In the nightcap, both teams started slowly, and the Trojans were in front of the Warriors, 10-5, after one quarter and 22-12 at intermission. Scoring picked up slightly in the third quarter before exploding in the fourth quarter.

After scoring a combined 61 points in the first three quarters, after which Chambersburg led 37-24, the teams combined to match that output in the fourth quarter.

"We played a great first half and a terrible second half," Chambersburg head coach Beau Gantz said. "We quit playing after halftime. We stopped playing defense and counted on them to miss shots. We didn't so much win this game, as we held on. It's disappointing to allow 46 points in the second half, when we give up 41 per game for the season."

Gettysburg (8-1) drew within 47-44 on Trey Thomas' bucket with 2:48 to play. Then a foul on Ben Kroll, his fourth, followed by a technical on Kroll for complaining about the call, saw him foul out. Trojan guard Kellen Williams sank all four free throws, then buried a triple to make it 54-44 with 2:28 left.

Williams led the Trojans with 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, while Evason Ogbonna put in 15 points to go with eight boards.

Cody Kiefer led the Warriors with 21 points and 15 rebounds and Thomas added 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
