District 3 Class AA champion York Suburban made easy work of its PIAA first-round opponent, North Pocono, by making solid use of the jump serve and winning in three games, 25-11, 25-9, 25-19 at Governor Mifflin Intermediate in Shillington.

In the second game, Jacob Kauffman rattled off 10 straight points with his serve and Ted Hinnenkamp helped the Trojans roll by scoring seven straight during a 25-9 rout.

North Pocono mounted its best effort in the third game, getting to a 15-15 tie before the Trojans called a timeout. On the other side of that break, Suburban outscored its opposition 10-4 to put the game away.

Kauffman finished with six kills, two blocks, four digs and 11 aces. Hinnenkamp notched 10 kills and two digs.

Setter Kody Deiter dished out 27 assists to go along with four digs, three blocks and an ace.

The Trojans will next play Friday in quarterfinal pool play in a group with YAIAA foe Northeastern, Derry and Bethlehem Catholic.

Class AA First Round
   --- Northeastern 3, Northern Cambria 1: The Bobcats won their first-round matchup, 25-20, 25-12, 20-25, 25-17, against the Colts at the Class AA first round championships at Juniata College in Huntingdon.

Steven Braswell led the Bobcats with 22 kills and eight digs, and he scored a pair of aces. Matt Hollinger also recorded 14 kills for Northeastern along with a solo ace.

Northeastern advances to Class AA quarterfinal pool play on Friday.
