DILLSBURG -- James Buchanan pulled off one its biggest wrestling dual meet wins in years Thursday night when the Rockets shocked Northern, 38-34, in a Mid Penn Colonial Division match.

"Everything fell into place for us tonight," JB coach Matt Gordon said. "We won the coin toss and got the matchups we needed and were able to capitalize. Northern is a big wrestling school and was 9-2, so it was a big win for us."

The key match of the night turned out to be at 152 pounds. The Polar Bears' Zach Ross, ranked No. 4 in the state at 145 pounds in Class AAA, moved up to take on JB's Todd Meyers.

Ross earned a takedown to open the scoring. But with 11 seconds left in the first period, Meyers stood up. Ross picked him up off the mat and then slammed him illegally into the mat. When Meyers could not continue, Ross was disqualified and the Rockets picked up six team points.

Gordon said, "They hauled Todd out in an ambulance. Fortunately, everything came back negative -- they said he had a stinger in his neck.

"I don't think what Ross did was intentional. Ross is good and he knows what he's doing and I've never seen him do anything like that. But it was clearly illegal."

James Buchanan (19-11, 2-3 MPC) had plenty of other big wins.

In the third bout of the night, at 285, Devin Reed planted Northern's Tony Reed in 3:47. At 138, Cameron Fox picked up a pin in 3:51.

As expected, Hunter Faith won big at 106, via technical fall,

and Austin Tucker stuck his man at 120 in the first period. JB also won three key decisions -- by Blake Egolf (126), Trevor Meyers (145) and Casey Glunt (160).

Egolf shrugged off two stalling points to win 9-4. Trevor Meyers was tied 10-10 at the end of regulation, but notched a quick takedown in overtime to win. Glunt also gave up two stalling points and trailed 2-1, but a takedown with just seconds left delivered a 3-2 victory.

Gordon said, "Fox won a huge match. We were trying to decide where to put him and he made it work out just right. Trevor just out-conditioned his guy."

The Polar Bears (9-3, 3-2 MPC) led 24-20 before the Rockets won four in a row from 138 to 160 to take a 38-24 lead.
