The York Daily Record/Sunday News has announced its 2008-09 Div. II wrestling all-stars.

CO-WRESTLERS OF THE YEAR

Dallas Brown, Delone Catholic: The 189-pound Squire finished out an impressive career with a silver medal from the PIAA Class AA Championships. His postseason run included golds from sectionals, districts and regionals. The University of Maryland recruit reached the state finals with a decision over a former PIAA champion, but he dropped a 7-5 decision to Line Mountain's Jon Fausey. He won 36 of his matches during his senior season, pushing his career record to 124-26.
Derek Schmelyun, Bermudian Springs: The 140-pound Eagle rounded out one of the best careers in Bermudian Springs' history with his third PIAA medal. As the Kutztown University recruit won the first 44 matches of the season, he captured sectional, district and regional crowns before being upset in the PIAA quarterfinals. Four straight consolation bouts gave him a second consecutive third-place state medal. His 48-1 senior season brought his career mark to 164-32, the most wins in program history.

ALL-STARS

Devin O'Brien, Bermudian Springs: The Eagle earned his second PIAA medal, this time a seventh-place one for Class AA 152 pounds. A second appearance in the District 3 championship final -- this time ending with a gold medal -- plus a regional final berth were the highlights in his 36-7 senior season.
Tyler Small, Delone Catholic: The three-time PIAA qualifier made the most of his trip to Hershey this time, returning with a fifth-place medal in the Class AA 125-pound weight class. The junior, who already has more than 100 career wins, compiled a 40-5 mark while defending his District 3 championship and winning two regular-season tournaments.
Hunter Doan, Delone Catholic: A stay in the hospital ended an excellent Squire career prematurely, with Doan never even getting into postseason action. A 2008 PIAA qualifier, the 130/135-pounder was a four-year starter for Delone, ending this season with a 24-2 record and two regular-season tournament crowns.
Phil Macy, Littlestown: The senior finished his Thunderbolt career with a second consecutive trip to Hershey for the state tournament after finishing fifth at regionals. The 140-pounders' second-place finishes at sectionals and districts came at the hands of Schmelyun. He compiled a 36-8 mark for his fourth year in the Littlestown lineup.
Bryar Robinson, Kennard-Dale: The Ram 135-pounder reached the District 3 Class AAA semifinals before closing his season out with two losses. He won both of his regular season individual tournaments plus the sectional championship as part of a 27-3 senior season.
Brett Smyers, Biglerville: The Canner senior reached the district finals, finishing second, before coming up short at regionals in his bid for a Class AA state berth at 285. The future collegiate lineman registered a 36-8 record and a sectional title in his fourth year as a starter in the Biglerville lineup.
Charles Walls, Littlestown: The Bolt junior finished the regular season unbeaten but took losses in the 145-pound class at the district and regional tournaments, falling short of earning a second chance at a state tournament medal. The three-year Littlestown starter completed the season with a 37-3 record.
Brent Hoff, Hanover: The senior went out in style with a berth in the PIAA Championships, after missing out on a ticket to Hershey last season by just one match. He piled up a 37-6 record, most of which came at 135, and he ended up with silver medals from the District 3 and Southeast Regional championships to go with his sectional gold.
Nick Page, Kennard-Dale: The Ram 215-pounder made a move up in weight for the postseason and became a PIAA qualifier as a Class AAA heavyweight after a third-place finish at the District 3 tournament. His 30-7 mark for his senior season included a Governor Mifflin Holiday tournament championship.
Josh Ruppert, Delone Catholic: A eighth-place state championship medal was the topper to an outstanding sophomore season. The Squire 112-pounder finished off the year with 31-11 record that included two pins of the state runner-up and a crown from the Boiling Springs Christmas tournament.
Jacob Boyde, Delone Catholic: The senior got hot at the right time, putting together a postseason streak that took him all the way to the state tournament. The Squire 119-pounder capped off a 25-13 season with an eighth-place PIAA medal to go with a sectional gold medal and a district silver medal.
Dylan Ferguson, Fairfield: The junior became the first Green Knight to qualify for the PIAA championships, coming away with an eighth-place medal from the Class AA 215-pound weight class. He also captured the program's first-ever district crown and brought home a silver medal from the regional tournament during a 31-9 season.

COACH OF THE YEAR:

Bob Gano, Biglerville: The Canner coach helped his squad break Bermudian Springs' stranglehold on the Division II crown. The 22-1 season included titles at the Canner Duals and Gettysburg Duals plus a semifinal appearance in the District 3 Class AA team tournament.
