Spring Grove bounced back from its opening-week loss with a resounding 51-13 victory over host Susquehannock on Friday night at Robert Lau Memorial Field.

The Warriors entered the game hoping to build upon their Week 1 win over York Suburban, while the Rockets hoped to make a statement after last week's loss to Susquehanna Township.

It was the Rockets who made that statement.

Following a 79-yard scoring run by Susquehannock quarterback Bryan Kerr on the game's opening play, Spring Grove coach Russell Stoner stuck to his hurry-up spread offense and a steady diet of Jeff Delaughter, whose performance Friday night was nothing short of outstanding.

Delaughter scored on runs of 10, 46, 30, and 2 yards, finishing with 217 rushing yards.

Rocket quarterback Seth Hildebrand was equally effective, rushing for 95 yards and a score, while throwing for another 135 yards (74 to Delaughter, 61 to Logan Hall) and a touchdown.

Rocket kicker Andrew Luckenbaugh posted a solid outing, hitting all four extra points and a booming 29-yard field goal.

The Rockets gained momentum after a see-saw first quarter and distanced themselves form their hosts.

Probably more impressive was Spring Grove's defensive adjustments. Trey Baker, Kyle Micik, and big David Shaw, among others, created havoc in Susquehannock's backfield. Shaw -- a 6-foot-4, 280-pound tackle -- recorded four sacks and two forced fumbles.
