South Western freshman Lynne Mooradian has a strong family history with track and field.

Her mother, grandfather and aunt all competed. Her mother and grandfather were hurdlers, and her aunt was a high jumper.

"I'd probably be a pretty good hurdler, but they won't put me in anything else," Mooradian said. "Track is in our family."

On Tuesday, with the Division A title on the line against Red Lion, Mooradian competed in four events -- none of which included the hurdles or the high jump -- and won three of them, helping the Mustangs claim their 21st girls' title by a score of 82-68.

"It's pretty cool. I'm glad we have the title again," Mooradian said.

Mooradian won the 400 (1:00.4), and 200 (26.1), and her win in the long jump clinched the meet for the Mustangs (6-0). She also placed second in the triple jump.

"What a joy to have. We have her all over the place," said Mustangs head coach Bruce Lee as he listed the numerous events Mooradian has competed in. "She just gives you that versatility and never complains. She always comes through."

In the boys' meet, the Lions (6-0) completed an undefeated regular season with a 95-55 win. Red Lion clinched its second straight Division A crown last week but wanted a perfect ending to the regular season.

"They wanted to go out with a bang," Lions head coach Todd Barshinger said.

For the 18 seniors on the team, including hurdler Andrew Menges, they've gone 23-1 over their four years at Red Lion.

"It's awesome, and to go my four years with only one loss, it's a great feeling," said Menges, who won the 110 and 300 hurdle events Tuesday. "I'm really proud of my team."

South Western's (3-3) Dillon Thomas won the javelin (142 feet, 2 inches) and high jump (6-2).

In the girls' meet, South Western's ability to finish second proved to be key. The Mustangs claimed second in 10 of 15 individual events. Those second-place finishes were good for 30 of the team's total points.

"We knew they were going to go big in the distance, and we thought we had to go big in the sprints and then let the seconds and thirds take care of themselves," Lee said.

Both teams were dealing with injuries, as Red Lion (5-1) was without star Angelica Gonzalez and South Western was without Maddie Swanner and Shayn Blackwell.

"I looked at the meet as who could come in here the healthiest," Lee said. "I felt like it was going to be a fairly good meet, and it was."

Red Lion won the 3,200 and 1,600 relay, and Amanda Wivell won the 800 and 1,600.

Erin Harman won the pole vault and triple jump and finished second in the long and high jumps for the Mustangs.
