78 YAIAA baseball players to keep an eye on this spring season

A pair of YAIAA division players of the year and pitchers of the year are among the returning starters on baseball rosters this season.

There will also be plenty of returning league all-stars on the fields when competition begins on March 20.

Dallastown senior Connor Barto and South Western junior Carlos Caraballo are the reigning Division I player and pitcher of the year, respectively.

Barto, a third baseman and pitcher, hit .451 with five home runs, nine doubles and 29 RBIs, and went 3-0 in 45 innings on the mound, finishing with a 0.93 ERA and 47 strikeouts. The Wildcats won the division, but lost to Wilson in the first round of the District 3 Class 6A tournament.

Caraballo went 5-3 in 50 innings, finishing with a 1.79 ERA and 52 strikeouts for the Mustangs, which advanced to the District 3 Class 5A tournament.

Susquehannock swept top honors in Division III, returning the Player of the Year and one Co-Pitcher of the Year. The Warriors won the division, the league tournament and finished third in the District 3 Class 5A tournament.

Senior Ben Koller hit .456 with 12 extra base hits, 19 RBIs and 25 steals in being named the division's top player. Senior Joe Smith finished with 87 strikeouts and a 1.84 ERA as he went 71 to share the top pitching honors with then-senior Logan Houser.

The top players in Division II and IV were seniors last year, or played for Gettysburg, which is no longer in the league.
