American Legion baseball: Postseason roundup

The York-Adams American Legion playoffs kicked off Thursday. The eight-team, double-elimination tournament featured four first-round games, with Northeastern and Dallastown earning wins.

Northeastern 8, New Oxford 5: In the second inning, New Oxford scored four runs thanks to a costly error and difficulty in the field because of the sun. Trailing 4-0, the hosts rebounded, scoring five runs in the third to take a 5-4 lead.

Northeastern added three insurance runs to take an 8-4 lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, Kenny Kopp retired New Oxford cleanup hitter Alex Smith. Smith grounded out with two outs and the bases loaded to allow Kopp to preserve Northeastern's 8-5 lead as New Oxford managed to score one run during the inning.

Northeastern's Jonah Latshaw went 3-for-4 with a triple. Ryan Shindler went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Brayton Bare went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. New Oxford's Ethan Hertz had two singles and two RBIs.
