YOUTH SOCCER

Larry Jones wins prestigious award

Larry Jones, a 1975 graduate of Chambersburg, was recently named as the recipient of a high honor from Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer, the Service to Community Award.

Jones, who has made contributions to the game of soccer as a player, coach, administrator and businessman, will be honored at the organization's annual awards banquet on Feb. 25 at the Lancaster Marriott.

After graduating from CASHS, Jones played soccer at Lock Haven and helped the Bald Eagles win a Division II national championship. He got involved in coaching youth soccer while he was the assistant and head men's soccer coach at Franklin & Marshall.

While in youth coaching, Jones was the president of Hempfield Soccer Club, and also helped start the Red Rose Classic and Hempfield Fall Classic, a pair of tournaments that are still played.

Along with three local partners, Jones helped open the Red Rose Indoor Arena, the first indoor soccer facility in the Lancaster area, and the Red Rose City Soccer Program, which will unveil a turf field later this year.

Jones currently serves as COO and CFO of Angelo's Soccer Corner, a store that has four locations in eastern Pennsylvania.
