Josh Edgin is back with the New York Mets

It's been a long road back for 2006 Mercersburg graduate Josh Edgin.

But all the work has been worth it, as Edgin has officially returned to the New York Mets on Tuesday after a successful rehab from Tommy John surgery.

After appearing in 115 games for the Mets, the relief pitcher's activity was cut short in September 2014 due to a stretched ligament. Edgin had surgery in March 2015 and was forced to miss all of last season.

Cleared to play in May, Edgin has been pitching for the Las Vegas 51s, the Mets' Class AAA affiliate in the Pacific Coast League. In 37 appearances, Edgin was 2-1 with two saves. He finished with a 2.18 ERA. During his minor league stint, Edgin had the opportunity to play against another Blue Storm graduate. He faced the 2011 grad Christian Binford, of the Omaha Storm Chasers.

Since his debut with the Mets in 2012, Edgin, a native of Three Springs, has had 81 2/3 innings of work that includes 78 strikeouts, a 3-3 career record with one save and a 3.20 ERA.
