USA Wrestling Cadet National Duals coming to York

For the second year in a row, York County will host hundreds of elite youth wrestlers for USA Wrestling's Cadet National Duals

Organizers expect the event to bring about 1,000 of the top wrestlers from across the country to compete in the two styles of Olympic wrestling: Greco-Roman and freestyle. The Cadet age group includes wrestlers born in 2000 and 2001.

The Pennsylvania Amateur Wrestling Federation will be the host organization for the event, which will take place in the York Expo Center’s Memorial Hall today through Friday.

The event is the precursor to the individual Cadet National Championships.

The York County Convention & Visitors Bureau estimates the tournament will generate an economic impact of up to $1.2 million, as visitors take advantage of lodging, dining and retail attractions across York County.

“Pennsylvania is proud to again host the Cadet National Duals and bring the top Cadet wrestlers to compete in this elite showcase,” Van Plocus said in a news release. He is the state chairman of the Pennsylvania Amateur Wrestling Federation, which is the state affiliate of USA Wrestling.

At last year's Cadet National Duals, Pennsylvania took fourth place in freestyle wrestling and fifth place in Greco-Roman wrestling. This year’s Cadet National Championships will take place July 16-23 in Fargo, North Dakota.

Competition runs 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
