Chance Marsteller transferring to Lock Haven

Former Kennard-Dale wrestling standout departs from Oklahoma State program

York County's most productive high school wrestler of all-time is starting over closer to home.

Kennard-Dale's undefeated phenom Chance Marsteller confirmed via text message Tuesday that he is transferring from Oklahoma State to Lock Haven. He will be joining good friend and fellow four-time PIAA champion Thomas Haines, the former Solanco heavyweight who transferred from Ohio State to the Bald Eagles this past winter.

Marsteller projects as a 165-pounder at Division I Lock Haven after wrestling at 157 pounds at Oklahoma State, according to flowrestling.org.

Marsteller had verbally committed to national champion Penn State and coach Cael Sanderson while attending Kennard-Dale. However, he switched his pledge to Oklahoma State before graduating. He redshirted for the Cowboys as a freshman and was suspended in January for most of this season for an unspecified violation of team rules.

He was wrestling much lighter at Oklahoma State from his fourth state high school title (170 pounds) in 2014. He owned a 6-5 record with one pin and two technical falls this season before his suspension.

One of Marsteller's biggest wrestling influences was youth coach Cary Kolat — another undefeated Pennsylvania high school wrestler who transferred into Lock Haven. Kolat won two NCAA titles and nearly a third with the Bald Eagles and Penn State and was an Olympian in 2000.

Marsteller not only won four PIAA titles in arguably the toughest state in the nation, he also was named USA Today's Wrestler of the Year as a senior.
