Former CASD soccer coach charged with sex assault of student

CHAMBERSBURG - A former junior varsity soccer coach for Chambersburg Area School District was arrested on two sexual misconduct charges Friday morning.

Jeffrey Daniel Hand, 34, is charged with one count each of felony institutional sexual assault - intercourse/sexual contact with a student and corruption of minors, according to online court documents.

Hand is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a female student, according to court documents filed at Magisterial District Judge Kelly Rock's office.

Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg was notified about the relationship in mid-December, after administrators were notified. District administration spoke with the student, according to court documents. The student said the two would spend the night at Hand's house on Wisteria Drive in Guilford Township. The two would hold hands and kiss, she said.

Police reviewed text messages sent between the two, in which they talked about a sexual relationship. Police believe they had a relationship involving oral and sexual intercourse, according to court documents.

Through the investigation, police found that Hand invited the student to his house and gave the student alcohol, and that the two had a sexual relationship that lasted between September 2016 and December 2016.

Hand was a paid employee of the Chambersburg Area School District at the time of the assaults, according to court documents.

CASD Superintendent Joe Padasak said when the district learned of the allegations weeks ago, administration had Hand turn everything in and suspended him.

The district released a statement Friday afternoon stating that once school administrators received the report of the incident, they turned it over to district police. The investigation was then done by state police, who informed the district of Hand's arrest Friday morning.

No other details were available Friday, they said.

Hand was arraigned Friday morning, and is being held at Franklin County Jail on $35,000 bail.
