The suspect in the murder of Dallastown-native Amanda Strous has been indicted by a grand jury in Charlotte, North Carolina, a court official said Tuesday.

Mathew Benner, 28, has been charged with murder and arson in Strous' death on June 18. He lived in the same apartment complex as Strous.

The grand jury indictment came Monday, the court spokesman said.

Witnesses told police that Benner had blood on his legs and refused to let anyone enter Strous' burning apartment, according to search warrants.

Benner is being held in Mecklenburg County prison.

Strous, 27, was an all-star field hockey player, a student counselor at Central Piedmont Community College and a bride-to-be.

A gym in North Carolina is planning a fundraiser in memory of Strous, WSOC-TV in Charlotte reported Tuesday.

Pineville Crossfit has scheduled the workout event for July 30 — the day Strous and her fiance, Cory McCleaf, were planning to marry. The money will go to her scholarship funds and her family, the television station reported.
