Suspect in Amanda Strous murder returning to N.C.

Mathew Benner, the man charged with killing Dallastown native and all-star field hockey player Amanda Strous, is returning to Charlotte, North Carolina.

Benner was picked up by a transport company at the Nye County Detention Center in Nevada on Tuesday night, said Sgt. David Boruchowitz with the Nye County Sheriff's Office.

It's not clear whether Benner is back in North Carolina at this point.

Strous was murdered at her apartment in Charlotte on June 18, police said. Benner, who lived in the same apartment complex, was arrested in Nevada on June 20. He has been charged with murder and arson.

Benner's defense attorneys have asked that the public  to "reserve judgement in this case until the facts are presented in court."
