For New Oxford coach Brian Martin, Thursday night was 28 years in the making.

Thursday night, New Oxford defeated Red Lion 47-19, and Martin earned his first varsity head coaching win.

"It really feels great to come back here to my school, and it was nice to win the first time in this gym, it's awesome," Martin said, beaming.

Martin spent the last 28 years as an assistant wrestling coach in the area, mostly at New Oxford.

Nolan Poust led the way with a key win at 152 over a wrestler he's had a nice rivalry with, Dylan Gurreri. Poust gave up a two-point takedown 38 seconds into the bout, but escaped 9 seconds later. Midway through the second period, Gurreri wrapped his arms around Poust's waist and attempted a takedown. Poust fought it off and caught Gurreri by the ankles for a tying takedown.

He went ahead for good, 4-3, with an escape seconds into the third. Still, Poust was more proud of his teammates.

"The team wrestled great. They haven't wrestled that good in a long time," Poust said.

"If we wrestled like that against South Western (this year), we would have beat them. We weren't about to have two losses in a row," Poust added.

New Oxford made a statement with an early 12-0 run.

Mike Rudisill turned a single leg takedown at 1:49 of the first match into a pin.

Then, at 145, Matt Poust was seconds away from a major decision, but Tyler Ness didn't give up any points for the final 34 seconds.

Red Lion scored at 160. Briar Smith peeled John Alpaugh's arm off the mat and stacked him 1:20 into the bout, and he finally pinned him 23 seconds later.

Red Lion's Jac Gemmill used a far-side cradle to make it two in a row at 170.

Darrick Rudisill scored six for New Oxford at 182 when he reversed Donovan Miller with an arm bar and pinned him shortly afterward.

New Oxford's Kurt Smith earned the 4-3 win at 113, going ahead on a two-point takedown with a minute left.

Zurich Storm tilted his opponent for 12 points in 49 seconds in his tech fall win at 126.
